So it was surely an eventful weekend of playoff football...well up until the Packers/Niners game which I thought was pretty damn boring. The one game that really stuck out the most was the Chiefs/Colts game at Lucas Oil Stadium. For anyone who didn't watch the game, the Colts were down 31-10 at the half and were eventually down 38-10 in the 3rd quarter. They miraculously came out of their funk and scored 35 points in the second half to go on and beat the Kansas City Chiefs 45-44.
I don't know what's crazier, the Chiefs losing a game and scoring 44 points, or the Colts coming back from a 4 score deficit. With the way the Colts played I'll take the lateral. Andrew Luck made an amazing touchdown play after Richardson fumbled the ball, and Luck grabbed and dove in for the touchdown. It was the craziest game I've seen in a very long time. That being said, as the game went on Kansas City Chief after Kansas City Chief kept going down. It started with the biggest name on the team in Jamaal Charles. I believe he got hit pretty hard, and went down with a concussion. After Charles it was Donnie Avery, and Brandon Flowers who were also diagnosed with concussions, and then finally Knile Davis left with an injury. All of these injuries were something the Colts took advantage of in which they completely changed the momentum of the game.
With the Chargers beating the Bengals, the Colts come on in to Foxboro Saturday night, and San Diego heads to Mile High.
Despite their 11-5 record, the Colts were probably one of the more impressive teams in the regular season. They knocked off some big names including the 49ers, Seahawks, Chiefs, and Broncos. Three of those wins happened when Reggie Wayne was still healthy. Wayne was injured during the game against the Broncos.
I think this game is going to be a lot tougher than we think. Sure we dominated the Colts last season, and our defense played pretty well against them, but Andrew Luck had a field day and threw for over 300 yards, and 2 TD's. T.Y. Hilton also played very well against us. One of the key components to our win last year was Rob Gronkowski, and we all know how that story goes. That being said, Brady also played very against them throwing for 300+ and 3td's with Vereen and Ridley both having a score.
Offensively I think the Pats need to do what they've been doing and that's a run first attack with Blount. That dude is on FIRE, and he can surely push through that Colts Dline. I know Mathis is going to be a problem for us, but I think with all 3 backs, we can handle it. As far as our wideouts go they just to do their job. I think Collie will come in big for his old team if he plays, and I think Edelman will have at least 8 catches for 90+ yards and a score. I see Thompkins having a few catches especially with Dobson probably not playing since he's been missing practice.
Defensively we need to stop T.Y. Hilton, and Colby Fleener. Those two guys can surely give our secondary trouble. I'm not worried about Trent Richardson because he hasn't really proved anything being a Colt, but Donald Brown is a different story. Everyone thought that guy was on the back burner after the Colts acquired Richardson, but Brown proved to be the go to running back in their win against the Chiefs bringing in 2 touchdown's, one on the ground, and one in the air. Siliga has been doing a great job up the middle, and in his last 3 games has 3 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. As I've said 100 times before, it's impossible to replace Vince Wilfork, but hopefully Siliga, Sopoaga, and the defensive line and hold up against Brown and Richardson. As for our secondary I'm hoping McCourty comes back. He did not play in the rainy game against Buffalo but I think that was more of a precautionary measure with the playoffs coming up.
I don't like making predictions for football games, but I think this is going to be a lot closer than the last time we played the Colts. I don't think either team is going to run up the scoreboard, and I think that the Colts will keep us on our feet the whole game. Of course I think the Pats will win but just like all season, this will be a nail biter.
Go Pats!
