Brady or Rodgers?

I see this question on every single Facebook sports page there is. I hear this question all over the radio. I SEE THIS QUESTION ON MY TELEVISION SCREEN WHEN I'M AT HOME?

WHO IS THE BETTER QB, RODGERS OR BRADY?!?!?!?!?!?

Then I ask my self a question... are you F$@king kidding me? Here's the thing, I'm gonna steer away from my bias opinion and not choose Brady right of the bat. In fact I'm not even going to choose Rodgers right off the bat. Actually, now that I think of it, I won't choose either of them at all because this is a stupid question to begin with.

I am not here to bash either quarterback of course because I'd choose either one of them to lead my team to victory. My question is why aren't there more quarterbacks mentioned in the question of "who's better?" Just 2 years ago we couldn't hear enough of how amazing Peyton Manning is and now that he's injured, you don't see him an any of these "who's better?" questions. What about Ben Roethlisberger? Doesn't he have two Super Bowl rings? Isn't he the toughest QB in the game? Just cause he doesn't throw 40 touchdowns a season, doesn't make him a lower quality quarterback. What about other guys in the game like Brees? Eli Manning? They've won Super Bowls, and they're both players who compete at a high level. Then there are players who haven't even won Super Bowls but have the high quality quarterback to do it. I think guys like Phillip Rivers, Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, and even Matt Cassell have the potential to do something great. Some of the rookie QB's from the past few years as well are showing promising signs. Not comparable yet, but eventually they will be.

I'm assuming the question of Brady and Rodgers is based on this season. Statistically, Rodgers is having the better season. He has 20 TD's, and only 3 picks this season. Oh his completion percentage is 71.5 and his passing rating is somewhere in the mega billions! or just 125.7 haha. He's on track to have a +50 Touchdown season which would mean he could break Brady's record. Brady right now has 16 TD's, and 8 picks. His completion percentage is 67.5 with a passer rating of 104.8. So clearly, Rodgers is having the better season. There's no reason to compare schedules, compare players on the team, because both quarterbacks are able to work past both of them. Whoever they play on the weekend comes prepared to play against both greats. A lot of people choose Rodgers, of course. He's young, talented, and in my own personal opinion on track to being one of the greatest ever. People tend to forget the age difference between Brady (34) and Rodgers (27. 28 in December). You constantly hear that Brady should be declining but in all honesty, I haven't seen much of that lately, have you? I'm pretty sure he was the first unanimous MVP last season at the age of 33.

My point is though. Stop comparing the two quarterbacks. Unless you're worrying who to start in your fantasy league, who to draft in your Madden 12 fantasy football league, or who's jersey you'd like to wear without being told "he sucks", then you have nothing to worry about. Both QB's are great with the team they're playing for. Enjoy the show they put on for you every weekend during the season. That's what I love about football.

Random Ramblings 1

I didn't watch the first pre-season game against the Jaguars, but I'm assuming we won. I'm assuming we kicked the crap out of that team. Lastly, I'm assuming Taylor Price had an awesome game.

Oh this is all true?

Prophet? Psychic? No, just an idiot who reads stats.

So it's awesome that the Patriots had a phenomenal pre-season opener. It's nothing I didn't expect from them. Hoyer and Mallett both played well. Ridley and Medlin from the stats had a hell of a game. Price was playing like he's been doing this for years.

Good things came out of that game.

Just bought tickets to see the Pats and Giants in Foxboro on November 6th. Section 119. GO ME! Those tickets were damn pricey.

Next we have the Bucs. I'm sure McCourty's excited to go down there to see his RU buddy and fellow high school classmate of mine Jeremy Zuttah.

Looking forward to Thursday night! This time I will watch it haha.

Fantasy Football and Patriots Players

As soon as players and coaches agreed on a deal, and Roger Goodell declared football being back, I instantly went into fantasy football mode. Now, I’m sure many of you reading this are fantasy football players. You know the swing of things, and you know the do’s and the don’ts. For anyone who doesn’t do fantasy football, or is looking to get into it, there is one rule that all of you should follow.

DO NOT ONLY PICK PLAYERS FROM YOUR FAVORITE TEAM!!!

I’ve done this plenty of times in the past, and I failed miserably.

With that being said, last season the Patriots had some players that racked up some big points for their fantasy team. This post will give you a quick guide of what Patriots players are going to help bring you a fantasy football championship, and maybe even a little bit of extra cash in your pocket.

Tom Brady:

This is a no brainer. Mr. MVP. It’s hard to assume that he’ll throw another 36 touchdowns, 3,900 yards, and just completely dominate, but you never know. He has more weapons this time around. Ochocinco, Faulk, Welker, Gronkowski, Edelman, Branch, Woodhead, Hernandez, Tate, Green-Ellis, Dwight Schrute… who? Ok, Office reference! But seriously, Brady’s going to have plenty of targets to throw to. I’m hoping that we get to see a little bit more of Taylor Price this season. Tom Brady is obviously a man you want as your starting quarterback. He’s a good second round pick.

Chad Ochocinco:

The name might be intimidating, but his stats speak otherwise. There’s a good possibility that Ochocinco was brought in as a chess piece to open up guys like Branch, Welker, Edelman, etc… From reading Mike Reiss’ twitter, Ochocinco has a little bit of butterfingers going on. He’s dropping passes a lot but that’s nothing to worry about. It’s August and everyone’s very rusty. It’s only being talked about because pre-season is next week and these guys usually have this rustiness taken care of by August. Ocho’s numbers last season were not his best. He had 4 touchdowns, 125 targets with 67 receptions. He did have a 831 yards receiving and from what I remember he had a hell of a game in New England Week 1. Draft him late if needed. Don’t forget who’s throwing to him. You have time to draft other players. Remember, he’s not here to shine on his own. He’s here to be a part of a team.

Wes Welker:

I’m big on Welker this season for a few reasons. Last season he came off of an injury. A lot of players are shaky and a little bit more cautious of their actions when coming off a season ending surgery. Welker’s had a lot of time to get comfortable, get his legs into shape, and now he’s got someone on the team like Ochocinco to draw the attention to all cornerbacks leaving Welker open. Am I saying he’s gonna have another year like 2007? It’s not impossible. Draft him higher. If he’s open in the 3rd or 4th round, pick him up.

Benjarvus Green-Ellis:

He was workhorse running back last season for us. He had 1,000 + yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, and about 4.5 yards per carry. With a successful season like that, you’d hope Belichick starts him. Right? Here’s the thing. Faulk is back. Morris is back. Woodhead is still here and with additions like Vereen and Ridley, Green-Ellis might not get as many touches. Don’t ignore him though. He’s going to be a late sleeper in the draft. He’s on my radar definitely. I think he’s gonna be a big part of New England’s success this season.

Rob Gronkowski:

This is my big sleeper pick. I think Gronk is gonna have another big year for the Patriots. Between him and Hernandez, I think Gronk has the edge when it comes to the amount of snaps taken per game. We saw a lot of Hernandez in the beginning and all of a sudden, Gronk came back with fire and had a 10 td season. Between Gronk and Hernandez, they were both targeted about the same amount of times and had about the same amount of receptions, it’s just that Gronk was more successful in the end zone. I think Gronkowski is going to be the go to guy when everyone else is covered. I won’t say he’ll get 10 touchdowns, but I know he’ll be targeted more. I recommend come draft day, if you’re in need of a tight end, don’t second guess Gronkowski.

Stephen Gostkowski:

Ending the draft and need a kicker? Pick him up!

Honorable mentions:

Branch: Great bench player. He never lets you down. Brady and him go way back and if you need a fill in, draft him late.

Woodhead: I have no idea what Belichick has in store for us with Woodhead. I know he’s not an every snap player. I don’t know if he’s worth drafting but if you have extra room for a RB in the end, give the little guy a team.

Hernandez: Another guy who isn’t a definite in any spot. I know he’s got plenty of talent. If he starts to pick up steam during the season then take him off the waivers.

Truth is we never know what to expect from Belichick every season. I know plenty of fantasy players are afraid to draft anyone but Tom Brady for fantasy football. So let them think that. It can be used to your advantage. Don’t draft all of these players in one team though. I had a hard time when I started playing 8 years ago because I was so loyal that I felt like if I drafted a guy Stephen Davis over Antwan Smith that I wasn’t a true Patriots fan haha. I was a fool. Good luck everyone!

ps. I did draft Bethel Johnson one year cause I swore he was going to be the next Jerry Rice… yep, that was me.

Albert Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco

So with the recent lockout ending in the NFL, teams were given a much shorter time than normal to sign players, make trades, re work contracts, etc... Players have been switching teams left and right. This is honestly the most excitement I've seen in an off season in recent years. I can't say I was happy prior to a deal being done because we didn't know if football was going to happen a week ago.

But now that's it here. Let's talk about some major additions.

We'll start with Albert Haynesworth. Haynesworth was a defensive lineman on the Washington Redskins that didn't fair very well under Mike Shanahan's authority. He was failing conditioning tests, missing practices, stomping on players heads (tried to at least). I know there were warrants out for traffic violations. All in all it seems like Haynesworth might be hard to control. There seemed to be a little temper going on but in all honesty I think it had to do with him just not liking it in Washington. So then why sign a deal? The money of course!

Now when I had read about Haynesworth going to the Patriots I was happy. I know what Pepper Johnson can do for Haynesworth and I know he can bring out the Pro Bowler potential that he didn't care to bring out for the Redskins. I mean if he can bring out the best in Wilfork, then he's going to bring out the monster in Haynesworth. In all honesty, I fear for any running back that has to run through our defensive line. Haynesworth, Wilfork, Warren... It's literally the Great Wall of New England. All Patriots fans have to hope for is that Haynesworth straightens out his act and becomes dominant once again.

On a final note with Haynesworth, I was reading a lot of comments about his trade to New England from NFL pages, Yahoo Sports, ESPN, and a lot of people both Pats fans and non Pats fans were using the term "Cancer" a lot in reference to what Haynesworth is bringing to the team. I don't personally think that term should be used in any kind of way regarding a player who you don't like. This comes as a surprise to me especially with Patriots fans especially since the recent death of Myra Kraft who did die of cancer. I think these people who use the term, need to find a new word other than cancer because it's just completely wrong.

With the news of Chad Ochocinco coming to New England, I immediately was in shock. I had just woken up from a nap and my mom and had said something along the lines of, "When did the Patriots get Ochonueve"? I'm like, "who the hell the is Ochonueve"? I finally figured it out and I wanted to start dancing but then I thought about what Chad Ochocinco brings to the table. Yes he's a controversial WR. He's never done anything harmful though. He just loves the game of football, that's all. He likes to shine, which is something that us Patriot fans haven't really seen. Yeah Moss was a big named player who liked the spotlight but when he came to New England, he turned his spotlights off and became one with the team. Ochocinco's a player who will dance in the end zone, tweet on the sidelines, or worse. I don't hate him, and I'm technically still dancing. I just don't want him to do something stupid that could get him suspended for a game or two. With the Jets on the verge of acquiring Nnamdi Asomugha, that means the Jets are gonna have the best secondary in the league. But their secondary can't stop Branch, Welker, Ochocinco, Hernandez, Gronkowski, Woodhead, and my favorite underrated guy, Edelman!

So do I think Ochocinco was a good addition? Absolutely. I think with Ochocinco in the mix it will alow guys like Branch and Welker to get open more and maybe the both of them will have a career season. I think Ochocinco is gonna turn up game and also have a career season. I mean there's one big factor in having a career season as a wide receiver and that's having an MVP quarterback like Tom Brady.

So with these major additions a lot of people speculate some troubles. No body thinks about the past with Patriots and players with a history of issues in the NFL. We took Corey Dillon who from what I remember was unhappy in Cincinnati and and turned him into a Super Bowl champion a year later. We took Randy Moss who was a sluggish slob in Oakland to a Super Bowl. He broke the record for touchdown receptions in a single season by a wide receiver and he also helped the Pats go 16-0. That's the thing about the New England Patriots. We take childish players and turn them into men.

Can't wait for this season to begin.

Typical Pats Fan

Typical Pats fan? What does that even mean? Every time time I talk about my teams ups and downs and things that shouldn't have been, I'm always told that I'm a "typical Pats fan". As of recently I thought about this statement, this over used term, and I finally figured out what it means.

Whether people like to admit it or not, the New England Patriots have been the most dominant team in the NFL since 2001. We have the most dominant quarterback. We have the best coach. We have won games with big name players, and we have won games with guys like Reche Caldwell, and won the Super Bowl with guys like David Givens. But who are they? They were never heisman trophy winners. They weren't rated high on Madden. They sure as hell weren't on my fantasy football team. What the fuck? Down the line we were eventually called cheaters. That's awesome. when a team is so successful there comes hate. Hate brings upon rumors, and rumors cause people to nit pick. Nit picking is where any hater can find a little piece of dirt and make a big deal out of it. Spygate? Yeah we were caught. Belichick said he didn't know it was illegal. The video of games were prior to the Super Bowl championship. There were no links to them cheating in the Super Bowl or any other game and I believe.

That's why I'm a typical Pats fan.

I hate the Jets and Rex Ryan. I do believe that Rex Ryan is a good thing for the Jets football team, but an annoying POS for the rest of football. He came into the spotlight with his foot fetish and said to the world that, "he's not here to kiss Belichick's rings". That's great Ryan. For the past 3 years you haven't been kissing Bill's rings or your own for that matter because just like the Philadelphia Eagles in the mid 2000's, you can't win a Conference Championship game. Yeah you take pride in beating us which is fine. All that extra effort to just fail in the end makes you look more pathetic than anything. You waltzed in, took your shot at all of the teams in the NFL and still have nothing to show for it. Yeah you beat us last year but we at least get an AFC East Championship banner haha. I'm a very arrogant Patriots fan against the Jets since I live in New Jersey.

That's why I'm a typical Pats fan.

Living in New Jersey doesn't mean I only deal with Jets fans. Ohhh no, I have to deal with Giants fans and their never-ending happiness of being Super Bowl 42 champions. Yeah we were beat fair and square. I still stick by the injury reports though. Tom Brady did have a high ankle injury and he was wearing an air cast on it for two weeks prior to the Super Bowl. Of course everyone believed that it was fake and it was some kind of tactic of Bill Belichick. Wrong, Brady was injured. No excuses though. I've made them in the past about how Brady was unstoppable in the regular season. He was accurate, dominant, amazing etc... Then he gets injured against the Chargers in the AFC Championship game. He all of a sudden sucked against the Giants? Credit to Giants D? Absolutely. Did Tom Brady's injury have a MAJOR impact on their loss? Absolutely!

That's why I'm a typical Pats fan.
